School Excursions

Enhance a unit of work by getting hands-on with actual specimens or add a fun and educational experience to your camp itinerary with a visit to Museum of Tropical Queensland in Townsville.

Part of the Queensland Museum Network, the museum offers permanent exhibitions on HMS Pandora, Queensland ancient marine reptiles, dinosaurs and fossils, the deep sea, coral reefs, mangroves, tropical rainforests and an insight into life in the tropics. The museum also hosts a variety of temporary exhibitions through the year. Schools can experience the museum through either a self-led visit or facilitated program with our Learning Officer.

School Admission Prices

Teachers and support staff and parents are admitted free at a ratio of 1:5 (1:4 for Early Childhood). Our staff will invoice your school on the day of visit, or you can choose to pay on the day.

Facilitated Programs

The museum offers a range of programs which support the Australian Curriculum. We can also tailor a curriculum or non-curriculum based program that suits your group’s particular needs. Please get in touch with our Learning Officer to discuss options.

Facilitated programs run from 45 minutes to 90 minutes for one class of up to 28 students at a time.

Free visit for educators

Free entry is available for Queensland teachers for planning preparation and to make the most of their group’s learning experience. To redeem your free admission, just show your teacher ID on arrival. Entry prices apply for family members and accompanying guests.
