Anemone Crab & Sea Anemone

Neopetrolisthes maculatus (anemone crab) & Stichodactyla sp. (sea anemone)

The anemone crab lives in a commensal partnership with the large sea anemone. Generally both a male and female live within the same anemone. The anemone provides protection for the crabs from its predators, such as fishes, whereas it probably gains little in return apart from the occasional morsel of food spilled by the crabs. These sorts of commensal partnerships can be seen throughout tropical seas.
