Museum of Tropical Queensland will reopen with a bang in early May 2021 thanks to World Science Festival Queensland.

World Science Festival Queensland reopening events including City of Science: Townsville and Flying Drone Workshops are now fully booked on Saturday 8 May 2021.

However tickets to After Dark: A Lighter Side of Science and Bird Walk with Queensland Chief Scientist on Friday 7 May are still available.

Excited to visit the museum? The museum will return to regular operations on Sunday 9 May with our permanent exhibitions and galleries open from 9.30am-4pm every day.

Key dates

    • Tuesday 27 April – Thursday 6 May 2021. Early access for Annual Pass holders to permanent exhibitions.
    • Friday 7 May 2021. World Science Festival Queensland, Student Day. Schools only permitted.
    • Saturday 8 May 2021. Museum reopening event: City of Science: Townsville. This event is fully booked. Due to COVID-19 regulations only ticket holders will be permitted.
    • Sunday 9 May 2021. The museum will be open with regular admission prices and free entry for Annual Pass holders
    • Saturday 15 May 2021 Ancient Rome: The Empire that Shaped the World exhibition opens.

    Annual Pass holders

    Annual Pass holders will receive early access to the museum from Tuesday 27 April to Thursday 6 May to enjoy all our permanent galleries including Pandora and the ever-popular Sciencentre.

    All Annual Pass holders that expired on or after 23 March 2020 will be automatically extended to accommodate the closure period. Visit here for more information. 

    Teachers and Schools

    The museum will be open for regular facilitated and self-led school groups from Monday 10 May 2021.
