EVERYDAY ACTIVITIES

NEW! Field School

Have loads of fun as you work through the interactive Field School to complete your Junior Archaeologist passport and explore how scientists link their discoveries to people, stories and moments.

Participate in a range of hands on activities that include excavation, identification, stratigraphy, classification and conservation.

Exploration Station

Various Times

Get up close to hold and touch a range of ‘artefacts’ and chat to Museum experts who can tell you all about their origin and the people that used them.

NEW! Museum Explorer Kits*

Families can grab a kit and head on your very own self-led adventure! Magnifying glass in hand, kids can discover parts of the Museum they have never seen before.

*Refundable deposit required to hire a Museum Explorer Kit

All everyday activities are free with Museum admission. Admission is free for Annual Pass holders.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Little Explorers

Every Tuesday and Thursday at 9.45am. 
Free with Museum admission

A perfect activity for all mini archaeologists, this facilitated activity encourages fun, discovery and creativity based around a Museum object. Children learn about the object, hear a story and join in craft activities. All children are welcome however Little Explorers is designed for kids aged 3-6 years.

Join us behind the scenes to discover the working areas of the Museum normally off limits to the public and explore the fascinating stories behind some of the priceless artefacts in the Cultures and Histories Storeroom with the experts who document, preserve and research them.

  • Tours run for approximately 60 minutes
  • All visitors must wear closed toe footwear
  • Visitors must be aged 12 or over
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult
  • All attendees must have a ticket

  

NEW! Puppetry Workshops

Friday 5 July – Monday 8 July
10am and 1.30pm

$17.50 per person, excludes Museum entry

Master the art of puppetry with special guests international production house and design company Dead Puppet Society. Incorporating the theme of archaeology, this 1.5 hour workshop introduces participants to puppetry and how to explore their creative ideas through visual theatre and storytelling. Ticket price includes all material and unique take-home puppet.

  • Ideal for ages 8 years and over
  • Children must be accompanied by a paying adult
  • All attendees must have a ticket

Explore the Excavated holiday program and whole Museum after dark plus listen to a talk from our maritime archaeologist Dr Maddy McAllister, take a Back of House Tour* and have loads of fun in the hands on activities all night.
