Sometimes they have jobs to do: the horses, camels, mules, and donkeys used to transport soldiers and equipment, as well as carrier pigeons and tracker dogs with their special talents

Yongala: Centenary on the seabed

A selection of objects from the SS Yongala will be displayed at the Museum of Tropical Queensland from Monday 21 March.

The display, named SS Yongala: Centenary on the seabed, is part of a series of community wide commemorative events to mark 100 years since the SS Yongala wrecked in waters south of Townsville during a cyclone on 23 March 1911.

The Butterfly Man of Kuranda displays the wonderful array of Queensland’s beautiful butterflies, beetles and moths as part of the International Year of Biodiversity.

This exhibition showcases our spectacular and historic F.P. & A.P. Dodd Collection of Tropical Insects from Australia and New Guinea. The exhibition focuses on 28 beautifully-arranged showcases from 1917 through to the 1960s.
