Celebrate our 30th anniversary with special activities, competitions and giveaways throughout June.

WHAT'S ON

Mondays - Visit on any Monday in June, sign up to our monthly ENews and go in the draw to win an annual MyMuseum membership - a winner will be drawn every Monday (normal admission charges apply)

Thursdays – Join Beau’s Buddies activity at 9.45am for children under 6 and receive a free birthday cupcake per child (normal admission charges apply).

Fridays (excluding 30 June) – Join our Facebook comp for a chance to win a double pass to Dinosaurs Up Late, an 18+ event on Friday 23 June.

Saturday 24 June – Extended opening hours from 9.30am – 7.30pm
Today is our birthday and we’ll be open until 7.30pm with lots of special birthday craft. This is your last chance to see the dinosaurs at night! 

Saturdays and Sundays – We’ll be bringing back our most popular craft activities from the last 30 years (normal admission charges apply).

 

SPECIAL DAYS

Tuesday 6 June – Meet two of our new senior curators and hear about their work discovering sea-monsters and exploring the deep reefs of the Great Barrier Reef (normal admission charges apply).

Hunting Jurassic Sea Monsters in the Arctic with Palaeontologist Dr Espen Knutsen – 12pm – 12.30pm

The deeper we go, the less we know with Senior Curator Corals Dr Tom Bridge – 12.30pm – 1pm

Tuesday 13 June – We’ve scheduled two talks to make the most of this free entry day for Townsville and Burdekin locals.

The making of a museum with Mr John Lyons – 11am – 11.30am

Human evolution: how complicated can it get? with Professor Paul Dirks and Dr Eric Roberts – 12pm – 1pm

Tuesday 20 June – Take a behind-the-scenes tour of two of our most significant collection stores and meet the senior curators responsible for these collections. Tours are free and can be booked at the front desk from 9.30am on the day. Numbers are strictly limited and attendees must be aged 15 years or older. (Normal admission charges apply.)

Cultures and Histories Behind-the-Scenes with Anthropologist Dr Kirsty Gillespie – 11am – 11.30am 

Corals Collection Behind-the-Scenes with coral research officer Dr Paul Muir – 12pm – 12.30pm
