Want to learn to grow organic food - and more? Permaculture advocate Leon van Wyk will reveal his secrets in a free talk at the museum on Tuesday, 13 September at 12 noon.

Leon is a passionate young permaculture designer based on Magnetic Island. He completed his permaculture design course while still in high school, and is secretary of Permaculture Townsville.

With rising food prices and concerns about food quality and the environment permaculture is an attractive option for home gardeners.

Leon’s talk will help interested locals, novice gardeners and green thumbs develop and improve their understanding of food systems and in particular, their tropical food gardens.

Permaculture Townsville is a not-for-profit, local permaculture group and is actively involved in projects ranging from school outreach to the development of community permaculture gardens, and ‘Permablitzes’ – where a group of volunteers converge on a designated home to establish a permaculture garden.

Mr van Wyk’s talk, ‘Miracles of Biomimicry’ is part of the Museum of Tropical Queensland’s Discover More Talk series, held on the second Tuesday of each month.
