Dr Claire Brennan from James Cook University will give a free talk on the rise and fall of crocodile hunting in Australia on Tuesday 10 May from 12 to 1pm.

During the 1950s crocodile hunting became the great Australian adventure as the new availability of suitable firearms combined with rising global crocodile skin prices to make ‘going on safari’ in northern Australia feasible and attractive.

The great northern crocodile adventure was eventually halted in Australia in the early 1970s as state governments legislated to protect crocodiles.
