Shipwrecked Story Writing Competition

MTQ would like to thank all who entered the Shipwrecked Story writing competition.  We have received many fantastic submissions from around the region and we thank you for your patience during the judging period.  We are now pleased to announce the winning entries:

Storywriting Prep - Year 1
Drawing
Prize: $30 Entropy store voucher and $70 MTQ gift pack for the child PLUS an in-school reading of Your Shipwreck Adventure by a MTQ Education Officer for the child’s class group, including a visit from Beau the Butterfly, the MTQ mascot.

Winning entry: Luka Fon, Prep student, Belgian Gardens State School.

 

Year 2 - 3
Short Story (150 word limit)
Prize: $30 Angus & Robertson voucher and $70 MTQ gift pack for the student PLUS a FOC led activity for their class.

Winning entry: Jessica Scott, Year 3 student, Ryan Catholic College.

 

Year 4 - 6
Short Story (300 word limit)
Prize: $30 Angus & Robertson voucher and $70 MTQ gift pack for the student PLUS a FOC led activity for their class

Winning entries: Ingrid Miller, Year 6 student, Townsville Grammar School and Keeden Walker, Year 5 student, Townsville Central State School.

Two winning entries were selected from this category due to there being no entries in the Year 7-9 category.

The entries submitted by the winners will be displayed for public viewing in the Museum shortly.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Vouchers and gift packs are awarded to the individual winners. The winners’ class of the P-Year 1 category will be rewarded with a free reading of the Queensland Museum’s children’s publication, Your Shipwreck Adventure by an MTQ Education Officer who will also bring along Beau, our big, bright blue cuddly mascot!

The winners’ class of the 2-3, 4-6 &7-9 categories will receive a free led activity of choice (for up to 30 children), for any school program offered by the Museum, normally valued at $5.50 per student.

The cost of bus transfers and other expenses relating to the Museum visit are the responsibility of the school.

The competition closes on 29 October and winners will be announced on 5 November. The class prizes must be redeemed during the 2010 school year.

The competition will be judged by MTQ staff, including our new Learning Activities and Public Programs Officer, Kate Ludwig, a former English & History teacher. The judges’ decision is final.
